The Reform Jewish community has a long history of generosity when natural disasters devastate communities around the world. Your generosity at this critical time enables us to play a role in recovery efforts and bring healing and hope to those whose lives have been affected. Donations to the Union for Reform Judaism Haiti Relief Fund can be made on-line or by check (note: Haiti Relief in the memo section) to: Union for Reform Judaism, Attention: Development, 633 Third Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10017. http://urj.org/socialaction/issues/relief/haiti/

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is also coordinating local Jewish efforts to raise funds for assistance in Haiti. The Jewish Federations of North America is partnering with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) to provide urgently needed aid and relief on a nonsectarian basis to victims of the devastating earthquake. To make a donation to the emergency campaign for disaster relief to benefit the victims of the Haiti Earthquake, please visit www.shalomdc.org/helphaiti

You can also support Haitian Relief while participating in a great afternoon of music and fine dining that will bring the entire Bowie area together. Bowie Cares: heart 2 heart II -- The Concert Event for Haitian Relief will take place On Sunday afternoon, February 28th at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts. Top local acts, such as our own Plan 9 (featuring Gary Whitmore ), and Shir Joy (Felicia Snyder and Rabbi Steve) have already committed, as have local favorites Long Time Coming , and The Crayfish (with our own Bob Porambo ).

There are events being planned prior to the concert for teenagers, and tickets are being priced to encourage family participation.  In addition, show your ticket that evening at any one of a number of local restaurants, and a portion of your receipt will be committed to the relief effort as well!  There is much more information coming -- so keep checking back here, and watching the local press and our usual congregational news sites.

Another very worthwhile organization is Doctors Without Borders, which already had a presence in Haiti when the earthquake struck. This organization, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, sends doctors and other medical personnel into nations ravaged by wars, natural disasters, etc. without regard to politics of any kind. Doctors Without Borders' website is http://doctorswithoutborders.org/
